Why Connecting in Groups Helps Us
Talking plays a powerful role in helping women maintain mental health and social connection—partly due to social patterns, and partly due to how communication supports the brain and emotions.
1. Emotional processing and stress relief
Verbalizing thoughts helps organize and release emotions. When women talk through problems with friends, family, or a therapist, it reduces internal stress and makes challenges feel more manageable. Putting feelings into words can calm the nervous system.
2. Stronger social bonding
Conversation is a key way many women build and maintain relationships. Sharing personal experiences, feelings, and daily life strengthens trust and intimacy. This aligns with the “tend-and-befriend response,” a theory suggesting women are more likely to cope with stress by seeking connection rather than through isolating.
3. Validation and feeling understood
Talking allows women to feel heard and validated. Even when there’s no immediate solution, simply being understood reduces feelings of loneliness and emotional burden.
4. Perspective and problem-solving
Discussing issues with others brings new viewpoints. It helps reframe problems, challenge negative thinking, and generate solutions that might not emerge in isolation.
5. Hormonal and neurological benefits
Positive social interaction increase oxytocin, often called the “bonding hormone.” This promotes feelings of trust, safety, and calm, which directly supports mental well-being.
6. Preventing isolation
Regular communication keeps social networks active. This reduces the risk of loneliness, which is strongly linked to anxiety and depression.
To Note:
Not all women benefit in the exact same way—personality, culture, and individual preferences matter. Some women process internally or through activities rather than talking, and that’s equally valid.
Upcoming Groups for Women
Talking with other women helps us release stress, reduce emotional pressure, strengthen relationships, and re-wire our brains for safety and connection.
We offer online support groups to women of different age ranges, throughout the year.
Learn more below and register your interest through the online form.
Groups will run with a minimum of four participants and a maximum of eight.
Please note that while these support groups are facilitated by a Registered Clinical Counsellor, they are for community building and connection and are not conducted as therapy. Therefore they cannot be billed to insurers as clinical counselling or psychotherapy.

The Group Process
Connect
Together, we’ll work through the everyday issues that affect us, and plan to touch on the pressing issues of the time that are relevant to group members.
There will be a maximum of 8 members per group.
Group members will be screened for suitability to each group to ensure cohesiveness, and an intake appointment will be completed by phone before joining the group.
Collaborate
Meet your group members and become part of a supportive community where we get to know each other, share our lives, and collaborate on important issues.
We set group rules to keep everyone safe, to keep things fair and running on time. We ask that you make a commitment to the entire 6 session series.
Learn
Every group is different. Every discussion is different. Your group contains much collective wisdom and experience. Learn how others are navigating challenges similar to yours. Hear from others what concerns them most, how they are approaching those concerns, and support each other through the process. We learn and grow in connection to others.
Grow
When we connect with others, share our experiences, and allow ourselves to be supported by other women, we find safety and strength and often inspiration to chart a new course, or resume our path with greater clarity and confidence.
You’re encouraged to stay in touch with your group members after the series ends. You’re also welcome back for future group series.
